Ria Formosa Natural Park
The natural park of Ria Formosa (PNRF) is located in Eastern Algarve, on the important existing lagoon area, covering an area of about 18'000 ha, including submerged area covering the municipalities of Faro, Loulé, Olhão, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António.
The Ria Formosa Natural Park is characterized by the presence of coastal sand dunes protecting an area of the lagoon. Part of the lagoon system is constantly submerged, while a significant percentage emerging in low tide. The average depth of the lagoon is 2 m.
